Sheila Weaver
Founder, President and CEO
Ms.
Weaver has over 20 years experience in sports, fitness and athletics. She holds
a B.S.E. in physical education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and a
M.A. in physical education from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.
A
physical education teacher and coach, Ms. Weaver has taught students of all ages
from pre-kindergarten through college. Ms. Weaver began her coaching career at
the State University of Binghamton in Binghamton, New York where she worked as
the Women's Basketball and Volleyball Coach. Several years, later she was appointed
the Coordinator of Women's Athletics at Union College in Schenectady, New York.
Upon moving to the Washington, D.C. area, Ms. Weaver worked
for the Alexandria Public Schools. In 1982 she was appointed to the Athletic Department
and Physical Education Staff at the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C.
While at the Sidwell Friends School, Ms. Weaver has received
numerous local and national awards for her accomplishments as a coach of girl's
volleyball. A former Washington Post Coach of the Year, Ms Weaver has been featured
on the cover of the American Volleyball Coaches Magazine. In 1997, her Sidwell
Friends high school team was ranked by USA Today among the top twenty-five teams
in the country.
Ms. Weaver has coached two High School Gatorade
Players of the Year and three Junior National Team players. Two former players
have won NCAA Division I National Volleyball Championships in 1996 and 1998 (Paula
McNamee of Stanford University and Cheryl Weaver of Long Beach State University).
Cheryl, Ms. Weaver's daughter is a three-time First Team NCAA Division I All America Player and was recently selected to train with the USA National Team.
In I995 Ms. Weaver founded the Academic
and Athletic Alliance, a nonprofit organization to provide leadership opportunities
and athletics programs for girls from disadvantaged areas. As the Director of
the D.C. Juniors Junior Olympic Volleyball Club, Ms. Weaver has used her extensive
experience to assist female athletes attain sports scholarships at Division I,
II, and III colleges and universities throughout the United States. Currently,
former players have received athletics scholarships at the following institutions:
Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, Long Beach State University,
Duke University, Temple University, George Washington, University, Howard University,
Clark Atlanta University and Macalester College.
In March
of 2000, Ms. Weaver was honored as the Year 2000 Private School Coach of the Year
for the District of Columbia by the Women's Sports Foundation.
